Wikimedia South Africa/Regional conference

An informal discussion has arise about the opportunities to host a regional Wikipedia conference in Africa, along the lines of the Indian WikiConference India.

I am definitely in favour of such an event, and from the work we done for the Wikimania bid I believe we have the experience to host such a regional event. It would be helpful if we could maybe get in contact with the organisers of the India conference to get some tips and background information. LouriePieterse 09:42, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
I am also fully in favour of such an event and would be delighted to help out in anyway that I can. Assuming of course that I am in the country and the right city at the time of the conference. Basically I am happy to help out. With that in mind I would like to ask the first couple of questions to get it started:
  • When should the conference take place?
  • Where should it take place? (Johannesburg, Cape Town, PT, a city out side of South Africa?)
  • Who will pay to host it?
  • To what extent should we/will we need to provide financial support to allow people to attend the event? (ie, flying them in and hosting them)
  • Who should be responsible for organising the event?
Those are my thoughts on the matter so far.--Discott 22:24, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
