AGM Preparation Finalisation

Bobby, Douglas, and Deon met with the newly appointed CEO Maryana Iskander during the day and has expressed an interest in joining the first hour of the AGM so she can get better acquainted with our movement and the volunteer community that makes projects like Wikipedia happen. She is based in South Africa which is why we have been given the unique opportunity to be the first affiliate AGM she will be attending and one of the first communities she will be able to get acquainted with. The agenda of the AGM was shared and finalized Meet the new WMF CEO Review of 2020 minutes Matters arising from the minutes Financials WMZA official mission statement Meeting intermission 5-year strategy update Activities for next year 2022 WMZA board elections Next AGM

Members of the board were encouraged to add their inputs to the WMZA mission input before the AGM, this is to help with the SARS tax issues. An account of the Chapters strategy needs to be presented, this 5-year strategy was written in the funding proposal, members are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the strategy. It was acknowledged that there is been a lack of work in terms of recruiting volunteers to the African small languages Wikipedias. A strategy needs to be placed in placed to attract new users, to the community. There might be wikimedians who don't know about the chapter. It was said it would be beneficial to have Wikipedia editors on the board who are knowledgeable about the South African Chapter. A conversation for the future board is to figure out a way to get new members into the chapter and this involves talking to Wikipedia editors.

A call to action should be sent out for people to join the AGM, this will boost and attract new members. Other ways which need to be established on including out volunteers in our activities which will make them feel part of the chapter. This question is to be asked at the AGM for general feedback.
